THAI YOGA MASSAGE COURSE: CAPE TOWN

INTERNATIONALLY ACCREDITED:

Thai Massage is a unique form of Yoga Therapy and bodywork that incorporates Hata Yoga, meridian work and acupressure.

It starts with a mindful welcome and blessing and ends with a back-bend...

Centuries ago, a dynamic bodywork therapy based on Yoga and Ayurveda was born in the temples of Thailand. In this unique healing system of Thai Yoga bodywork - also called Nuad Boran - and widely known as Traditional Thai Massage, (Nuad Phaen Boran ) - the practitioner guides the recipient through a series of passive Yoga postures while palming and thumbing along the ''Sen Lines'', the body's energy lines and pressure points. Together these actions result in a comprehensive full body treatment that relieves muscular tension, improves circulation, boosts the immune system and balances the body energetically.

The therapeutic basis of Thai Yoga Massage is rooted in the Indian healing tradition of Ayurveda;  the word Ayurveda derives from two Sanskrit words: Ayur, meaning "life" and Veda , meaning "knowledge" thus, this science of living functions as a guide to the proper maintenance of life.

THAI YOGA MASSAGE COURSE OVERVIEW:

THIS IS AN IN-PERSON ONLY COURSE.

_________________________________________________________________

This Course is at Diploma Level and is the only internationally accredited course in South Africa.

This comprehensive certification covers the "Art of Touch," focusing on 134 distinct positions across the Four Traditional Postures: Supine (Front), Side-Lying, Prone (Back), and Seated.

1. The Clinical & Theoretical Foundation

  • Comprehensive Manual: 134 positions detailed with anatomical diagrams, high-resolution photography, and step-by-step sequencing.
  • Energy Anatomy: An in-depth study of Sen Lines / meridians and their parallels to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) meridians.
  • Trigger Point Integration: Identifying and releasing myofascial trigger points within the context of a rhythmic flow.

2. Advanced Alignment & Yoga Biomechanics

For yoga teachers, this section transforms how you see and adjust your students.

  • The "Passive Asana" Philosophy: Learn to guide a client into deep expressions of yoga poses (like Halasana or Ardha Matsyendrasana) while they are completely relaxed, allowing for deeper structural shifts.
  • Structural Assessment: Developing the "Teacher’s Eye" to spot skeletal deviations, pelvic tilts, and shoulder impingements before you even begin the touch.
  • Reciprocal Inhibition & PNF: Utilizing key neurological principles, such as working with muscle reflexes, to bypass the nervous system's "stretch reflex," allowing for safe and significant gains in flexibility.
  • Joint Mobilization: Techniques for tractioning the spine and "opening" the joint capsules of the hips and shoulders using Thai-specific leverage.

3. Safe Practice & Ergonomics

  • Body Mechanics for the Practitioner: Learn to use your own body weight, knees, and feet to apply deep pressure, ensuring you can give a 2-hour treatment without strain or fatigue.
  • Contraindications & Modifications: Specific protocols for injuries, hypermobility (EDS), and common postural pathologies like Kyphosis or Lordosis.
  • The "Line of Gravity": Understanding how to align your center of gravity with the client’s "Sen" lines to maximize pressure with minimal effort.

Why this is Essential for Yoga Teachers? By mastering these 134 positions, you gain a tactile understanding of applied anatomy. You will leave the course not only able to perform a full Thai Massage but with a vastly improved ability to provide hands-on adjustments in your public yoga classes that are safe, confident, and anatomically informed.

Why is Thai Yoga Massage excellent for massage and complementary therapists? Thai yoga massage is a transformative modality for therapists because it shifts the physical burden from small muscles to the entire body, significantly extending career longevity. Unlike table-based massage, which often leads to repetitive stress injuries, Thai massage uses ergonomic body mechanics reminiscent of martial arts.
